There are over forty bars and restaurants in Bourg Saint Maurice so plenty of choice. Here's some information about some of our favourites. The TonneauThis bar has been a noted meeting point for touring bikers for years. It is on the main road through the town near the railway and coach station, and has a huge terrace for sitting outside in the summer and a pool room downstairs. The drinks are reasonable and they serve cocktails and basic bar snacks. It is very busy, and best avoided on Saturdays, but as our nearest bar is always good for a bit of apres-ski on the way home.BazoomBecause, unlike us, most chalet companies insist that their guests always leave and arrive on Saturdays Bourg railway and coach station is always teeming with people all day. This bar and restaurant opposite Bourg station has targeted itself towards travellers waiting for trains or transfers to other resorts, which means it is quite expensive, and has the ambiance of a waiting room. However the food is nice and the menu original, particularly the salads, and they have live bands most Friday nights. The MontagnoleThis restaurant has a more interesting menu than most in the town, steering clear of regional dishes in favour of a wider variety of french food. It is quite expensive, but the meals are unusual and worth the extra money. it is small and prettily decorated with paintings and poems produced by the owners. The RefugeThis small restaurant on the pedestrian road in the old part of town is a firm favorite with the locals and usually requires reservations. The decor and menu are traditional savoyarde and the staff are friendly and welcoming. It isn't cheap, but they know what they are doing with meat and cheese. The TsabloThis restaurant whose decor is reminiscent of a sauna is also on the pedestrian road, and is like a cheaper version of The Refuge. It's menu is simple, but the food is as good, and the patron is lovely and remembers you after only one visit. The Central BarAffectionately known as 'the spot' this bar is the local to the seasonaire fraternity. It is fuss free and provides all you need for a great night out: a wurlizer, pool tables, seating outside for smokers, cheap beer and an owner who loves to socialise with his clientele, just don't ever drink anything he offers you from a perrier bottle.AbsoluteThis nightclub is only open at the weekends and likes to think of itself as the sister to the viper rooms in Beverly Hills. In fact it is a windowless one story building with a small dance floor and booth seating. However they make you enter by buzzing a doorbell for a big black door, and have pink strip lighting set into mirrors around the dance floor so if you get into the spirit of it, it can be a really fun night out. |
